@ryan Once your video is playing right click anywhere on screen then go to Video &gt; Subtitles Track &gt; Open File... 

Also if anyone faces any problem and they think this might be the fault of VLC they should check for updates from the help menu. Sometimes an update to latest stable version solves many problems.</description>
