Microsoft offers a free book In and Out of the Classroom with Microsoft Office 2000 Professional. This book has Office 2000 tutorials that introduce students to Microsoft Office 2000 and how to get the most out of it. These tutorials are quite comprehensive and would be a great start for our learning process. I have also found Florida Gulf Coast University’s Office 2000 Tutorials. These tutorials are very basic. So I guess we will use Microsoft’s tutorials as our text book for now.
Why we are using Office 2000? We can not afford to buy Office XP. Unlike most popular Linux distributions, Microsoft’s windows XP doesn’t come equipped with all the essential software that you would need.
What about Open Office, it runs on Windows? Yes and we will be working on Open Office as well. What we are going to do is to learn Ms Office, Open Office and Google Office all at once. For example lets say we learn to set page margins on MS Word, then we will learn how to do that in Open Office writer and then Google Docs.
